POSITION SUMMARY:
The Estimator role is responsible for accurately estimating costs related to materials, equipment, and other relevant areas. Daily operations include researching projects, developing reports on materials and analyzing potential projects bidding processes. Must have experience with mechanical projects through the full life cycle and proven ability to complete projects according to the outlined scope, budget, and timeline. Must have in-depth mechanical, electrical, and plumbing industry knowledge with cross-functional estimating experience. Must be detail and customer service oriented and have excellent organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Review and comprehend technical and administrative documents such as Request for Proposals (RFP’s), and Request for Quotes (RFQ’s).
Assess cost-effectiveness of products, projects, and services.
Assist Estimators with product selections and plan/spec review as required.
Communicate with owners, architects, MEP Consultants and General, Mechanical and Electrical Contractors.
Interpret customer requirements; speak with customers or prospects to understand their needs and relay this information to the Sales Representative.
Serve as liaison with other departments in the company to gather technical expertise to support the Sales Team.
Review supplier and subcontractor proposals and pricing for accuracy and completeness.
Review data to determine material and labor and equipment requirements and prepare itemized lists.
Review site inspection reports provided by Field Estimators & Sales Teams for analysis of conditions and assessment of risk, and identification of activities that may or may not be shown in tender documents.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate contact information for suppliers, subcontractors, manufacturers, and clients.
Training and onboarding new hires to the department to ensure processes are followed.
Read, understand, and interpret building mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection plans & specifications.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
High school diploma or GED required.
Technical-related associate degree or some post-secondary education preferred.
OSHA 10 Safety Training preferred.
National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBPVI) Certification preferred.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Certification preferred.
Track record to successfully estimating and negotiating large, complex projects.
Five (5) years or more experience in the mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing industry.
Experience with building Hydronic heating systems and equipment.
Experience with Commercial Domestic water systems and equipment.
Experience with estimating of pipes, valves, and fittings.
