The Surgical Technologist is a specifically trained scrub technologist who, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, serves as a vital member of the OR team, responsible for direct and indirect care of the surgical patient. Education:
Required: High School education or equivalent Completed a program for surgical technology accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); or Completed an appropriate training program for surgical technologists in the armed forces or at a CAAHEP accredited hospital or ambulatory surgical treatment center program; or Successfully completed the surgical technologists LCC-ST certifying exam. Evidence of employment as a surgical tech for not less than 18 months in the three years preceding May 21, 2007, in a hospital, medical office, surgery center, or an accredited school of surgical technology. Preferred:
Experience in a surgical setting. Position Requirement(s):
License/Certification/Registration: BLS certification completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward Preferred: CST (Certified Surgical Tech) Department Position Summary:
The Surgical Technologist functions as a member of the surgical team responsible for obtaining surgical supplies, preparation of the surgical field, and maintenance of procedure sterility. The Surgical Technologist collaborates with medical, anesthesia, managerial, nursing, and clinical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status to provide age-specific care as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
