36 Job Summary: The Surgical Technologist is a specifically trained scrub technologist who, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, serves as a vital member of the OR team, responsible for direct and indirect care of the surgical patient. Education: Required: - High School education or equivalent - Must have completed one of the following educational requirements:

Completed a program for surgical technology accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); Completed an appropriate training program for surgical technologists in the armed forces or at a CAAHEP accredited hospital or ambulatory surgical treatment center; Successfully completed the surgical technologists LCC-ST certifying exam; Provided sufficient evidence of employment as a surgical tech for not less than 18 months in the three years preceding May 21, 2007.

Preferred: - Experience in a surgical setting.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required: - BLS certification completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward. Preferred: - CST (Certified Surgical Tech). Department Position Summary: The Surgical Technologist functions as a member of the surgical team responsible for obtaining surgical supplies, preparing the surgical field, and maintaining procedure sterility. The Surgical Technologist works in collaboration with medical, anesthesia, managerial, nursing, and clinical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The Surgical Technologist must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. They contribute to the department and Medical Center through support of the philosophy and objectives. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
