The Town of Watertown is accepting applications for the position of Senior Center Minibus Drivers. This is a Per Diem position and the hourly rate of pay is $21.35.
THE POSITION:
The Senior Center Minibus Driver is responsible for performing a variety of routine and complex transportation duties while driving a van, bus or other vehicle and coordinating transportation plans in support of senior adults. The Minibus Driver is required to have and maintain a Connecticut CDL Vehicle License and have a good driving record. The Minibus Driver reports directly to the Director of Parks and Recreation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with the Senior Center Coordinator, Senior Center Assistant Coordinator and other employees to arrange schedules, routes, and priorities for minibus transportation to various locations such as doctor and dentist's offices, luncheons, assistance programs, retail stores, etc. Drives vehicle for special assigned trips for outings, social gatherings, shopping, sightseeing, field trips, etc. as arranged by the Director of Parks and Recreation, Senior Center Coordinator/Municipal Agent for the Elderly or Social Services. Coordinates pick-ups for seniors participating in recreational or Social Service programs. Performs daily inspections, cleans vehicle, and maintains gasoline level daily. Reports any vehicle malfunctions or needed maintenance. Assists passengers to board or leave vehicles as needed. Operates a wheelchair lift to aid passengers. Secures all wheelchair passengers with appropriate devices provided on the vehicle. Enforces safety belt regulations helping passengers with securing seat belts, as necessary. Prepares and submits reports that may include the number of passengers on trips, hours worked, mileage, fuel consumption as requested. Maintains communication with the office to report changes, problems and assist in Senior Center’s office and perform other minor miscellaneous related duties as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must hold and maintain a valid Connecticut CDL Vehicle License. Knowledge of skillful and safe driving practices. Knowledge of state statutes on transportation. Ability to see details at a distance and at close range. Knowledge of special devices. Ability to be sensitive to the needs of others and to be understanding and helpful; listen, understand verbal communication, and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work with little or no direct supervision. Knowledge of town layout and locations. Ability to use sound judgment required to operate vehicle in safe and efficient manner. Accountable for the safe and legal operation of vehicles. EXAMINATION:
