Overview
The Design and Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation, researching the best materials at the best cost. The team faces a variety of sites, including existing buildings with unique problems, and evaluates new materials with a focus on sustainability and value within current building and environmental legislation. Most team members have an architectural or engineering background, and the role offers the opportunity to gain expertise in design and project management in a thought-provoking setting. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the role coordinates external design consultants, obtains building control approvals, discharges planning conditions, ensures mains services are procured, provides Construction Issue drawings for site starts and supports site operations. Responsibilities
Obtaining Technical Drawings and approvals to enable efficient site starts. Minimising risk through provision of timely and high-quality information. Brief, manage and drive external consultants in the preparation and issue of production information to an agreed programme, fee and scope. Assist in the preparation of Design Programmes with an ability to present at Progression Meetings. Ensure all statutory enquiries, sewer connections and other relevant legal agreements are submitted and pursued for timely completion. Oversee the NHBC/Building Regulations applications to approval. Ensure working drawings align with the approved Planning Scheme and discharge planning and building control conditions. Monitor and control all production information in liaison with the Commercial Department to maintain cost controls and align with budget estimates. Monitor and control the Professional Fees budget and update fee reports monthly. Ensure Group Policy and Procedures are fully managed and controlled. Oversee preparation and approval of Brochure Plans, Conveyance Plans and Sales Area drawings. Attend site progress meetings and conduct site inspections. Attend and present at meetings for various project stages (Land/Technical hand-over, Project Meeting, Optimisation, Progression, Technical/Sales, Budget Meetings, etc.). Coordinate with internal and external parties; attend Subcontractor interviews and meetings where appropriate. Respond to site queries and resolve Technical/Construction problems. Issue drawings and information for construction purposes. Qualifications and Skills
Qualified as a Civil / Building Engineer or hold a Construction-related degree, or have attained an HNC/HND in a built environment subject with relevant experience. Good technical knowledge of both house and apartment construction. Working knowledge of Building Regulations, NHBC, Party Wall Awards and related construction legislation. Strong communication, meeting and management skills for working with multi-disciplined teams; capable of rapid problem recognition and resolution. Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and exceed customer expectations. Excellent communication at all levels, with high attention to detail.
