Overview

The Axel Group is seeking an Accounting Manager to join our client's team in Loudon County, VA. This position oversees the day-to-day financial operations with a focus on construction accounting and financial management. The role requires attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-growing environment.

Base pay range: $115,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of accounts receivable (AR), including billing, collections, and client account reconciliations.
  • Oversee construction accounting processes, including job cost tracking, project reporting, and compliance with contract terms.
  • Prepare and coordinate insurance audits by gathering required documentation, ensuring accuracy, and serving as the main point of contact with external auditors.
  • Lead month-end close procedures, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Collaborate with ownership and leadership to provide financial insights, reporting, and recommendations that support decision-making and business growth.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and external regulations.
  • Implement process improvements to streamline accounting workflows as the company scales.
  • Support other accounting functions as needed (AP, payroll, general ledger maintenance).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent experience a plus).
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in construction or project-based accounting.
  • Strong understanding of accounts receivable, job costing, and month-end close processes.
  • Experience supporting audits, preferably insurance or compliance-related.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (experience with construction accounting systems is preferred).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a growing company environment.
