General Description

The Janitor reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The janitor is responsible for providing cleaning services to the entire R. E. Darling facility. This position requires an individual with a general understanding of cleaning procedures. The janitor must be physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb and reach. Dependability and attention to detail are required characteristics. Also, the Janitor must be willing to assist Maintenance Operators and/or do the functions when needed. The Janitor work environment involves work both indoors and outdoors and may involve standing for extended periods. The Janitor will occasionally be required to lift items weighing between 40-75 lbs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Achieve daily and specific goals
  • Provide cleaning services to the entire R.E. Darling facility
  • Work in maintenance department as required:
    • Test water chemistry daily and make appropriate changes / adjustments on Boilers, Cooling Towers, and Evaporative Coolers
    • Assist other Maintenance personnel on overhauls and repairs of equipment
  • Practice safe and efficient work habits
  • Achieve daily and specific goals
  • Provide maintenance support to other departments
  • Repair and upkeep of facilities equipment
  • Practice safe and efficient work habits
Education And Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • A minimum of 6 months experience in general janitorial services is required
  • A minimum of 6 months experience in industrial maintenance is required

Special Tasks And Focus Areas

  • Achieve daily and specific goals
    • Complete daily tasks in a timely manner as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Provide cleaning services to the entire R. E. Darling facility
    • Clean offices & common areas to include:
      • Empty trash
      • Vacuum carpets
      • Mop tile floors
        • Clean grout as necessary
      • Dust
      • Wash marks from walls as necessary
      • Clean windows as required
    • Clean restrooms
      • Mop floors
      • Clean Grout
      • Clean toilets, urinals and sinks
      • Clean mirrors
      • Wash marks from walls as necessary
      • Fill all paper and soap dispensers
    • Clean drinking fountains
    • Clean glass doors
    • Reports the need for any facilities repairs to the department supervisor
  • Work in maintenance department as required
    • Work with maintenance mechanics in the performance of minor repair work of production or facilities equipment
      • Minor repair and upkeep of facilities equipment
      • Boiler blowdown
      • Cooling tower maintenance
      • Painting
      • Cleaning
      • Cooler service and minor repair
      • Minor roof repairs
      • Grounds work as required
      • Minor plumbing repair of restroom fixtures
    • Practice safe and efficient work habits
      • Follow all REDAR rules and policies
      • Utilize PPE as required
      • Be dependable and honest with good work ethics
