Overview

The Database Administrator will be an integral member of the Database Services team within the Platform Services domain. The role partners with diverse team members to help solve multidimensional information technology problems, improve customer experience, and generate value for campus stakeholders across a broad base of departments. The DBA supports databases, including schema definition, structure, long-range requirements, and the development of documentation, data security measures, and operational guidelines and protection. The DBA assists in the design, creation, optimization, and maintenance of IT databases and works with a broad range of customers, partners, and stakeholders in academic, medical, and research organizations to provide best-in-class database services, profile application workloads, identify interdependencies, and facilitate a secure database environment. The DBA is accountable for implementing and maintaining stringent security protocols to protect the University’s data from unauthorized access and potential breaches, and serves as the first line of defense to diagnose and resolve database issues to minimize disruption. The role will positively impact UCSF’s operations and culture by protecting stakeholders’ information and data in service of the institution’s academic, medical, and research mission, and will deliver security service across faculty, staff, and students while reflecting UCSF’s culture and values. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on factors including work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $87,900 - $145,000 (Annual Rate). Provide database support including schema definition, structure, and long-range requirements. Develop documentation, enforce data security measures, and establish operational guidelines. Design, create, optimize, and maintain IT databases; profile application workloads; identify interdependencies; and facilitate secure database delivery. Diagnose and resolve database problems to minimize disruption and maintain uptime. Collaborate with customers, partners, and stakeholders across academic, medical, and research environments. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of experience/training, in computer science, engineering, computer information systems, or related field. 1 to 3+ years of experience in information technology, database architecture, or software development. Experience with database technologies and services (Oracle, SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or others). Data modeling experience and ability to translate models into high-performance physical database designs. Proficiency in SQL optimization. Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows system administration. Strong skills in PowerShell and/or Unix shell scripting. Experience working on large design efforts within cross-functional project teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining complex IT concepts to non-technical audiences. Strong customer service skills and ability to triage and escalate to leadership for resolution. Preferred Qualifications

Database Administrator certification (Microsoft, Oracle, or equivalent). Experience in architecture for high-volume databases in enterprise-grade solutions. Understanding of current application development methodologies. Knowledge of virtualization techniques to support scalable, multi-tenant SaaS offerings. Ability to interpret and apply service level agreements, policies, procedures, regulations, and other requirements into actionable outcomes. Expertise in database technologies including Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Access, and cloud database services. About UCSF
