Abernethycontracting is hiring: Heavy Equipment Mechanic in Charlotte

Abernethy Contracting is actively looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic. This position will be under the supervision of our Equipment Manager and will work with a team of construction professionals. The following job description encompasses many of the job requirements; however, other tasks and areas of responsibility may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Conduct preventive maintenance on all fleet trucks from 1500 chassis through Class 8 Tractor Trailers.
2. Work on heavy equipment.
3. Perform DOT Safety Inspections.
4. Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment in order to diagnose defects.
5. Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
6. Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
7. Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
8. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
9. Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records.
10. Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
11. Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
12. Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
13. Demonstrate Abernethy's core values in daily duties.
14. Communicate professionally with everyone on site, including supervisors, crew members, contractors, clients, and vendors.
15. Understand, interpret and follow directions from a foreman or superintendent.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Experience working on all fleet trucks from 1500 Chassis through Class 8 Tractor Trailers.
2. Experience in vehicle diagnostics.
3. Diesel mechanic: 1 year (Preferred)
4. Mechanic: 1 year (Preferred)
5. Must be able to convey information by phone and in-person; and effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations, which may include customers, vendors, and/or other employees.
6. Basic math skills required and must be able to accurately calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
7. Able to work in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple projects/tasks.
8. Must be able to work Monday through Friday, as well as Saturdays, based on operational needs.
9. Must pass a pre-employment background screening.
10. Must have reliable transportation.
