Abernethy Contracting is actively looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic. This position will be under the supervision of our Equipment Manager and will work with a team of construction professionals. The following job description encompasses many of the job requirements; however, other tasks and areas of responsibility may be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Conduct preventive maintenance on all fleet trucks from 1500 chassis through Class 8 Tractor Trailers.
- Work on heavy equipment.
- Perform DOT Safety Inspections.
- Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment in order to diagnose defects.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
- Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records.
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Demonstrate Abernethy's core values in daily duties.
- Communicate professionally with everyone on site, including supervisors, crew members, contractors, clients, and vendors.
- Understand, interpret and follow directions from a foreman or superintendent.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
- Experience working on all fleet trucks from 1500 Chassis through Class 8 Tractor Trailers.
- Experience in vehicle diagnostics.
- Diesel mechanic: 1 year (Preferred)
- Mechanic: 1 year (Preferred)
- Must be able to convey information by phone and in-person; and effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations, which may include customers, vendors, and/or other employees.
- Basic math skills required and must be able to accurately calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple projects/tasks.
- Must be able to work Monday through Friday, as well as Saturdays, based on operational needs.
- Must pass a pre-employment background screening.
- Must have reliable transportation.
