Job Description

Position Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

Department: Department of Transportation

Reports to: Guthrie Interstate

Division: 4

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Location: 719 Camp Russell Road, Guthrie

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment or heavy machinery such as trucks, tractors, road graders, dozers, front-end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, snow removal equipment and other equipment as needed.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
  • Repair failures in roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
  • Repair and/or replace signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
  • Provide traffic control assistance using a stop/slow sign or flag to direct highway traffic.
  • Apply herbicide to highway right-of-ways to control weeds and other vegetation.
  • Remove debris including tires, animal carcasses, spilled items and other obstacles.

Level Descriptor

This is the basic level where incumbents work under close supervision operating and maintaining power equipment and performing related unskilled and semiskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of highways.

Education and Experience

Level I

Education and Experience Requirements At This Level Are None.

Level II

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of one year of experience in operating heavy equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Competencies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the safe operation and maintenance of power equipment or heavy machinery. Ability is required to perform manual labor; to maintain and operate power equipment; and to follow instructions.
