Responsibilities
- Operate power equipment and heavy machinery such as trucks, tractors, road graders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, snow removal equipment, and other equipment as needed.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
- Repair failures in roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
- Repair and/or replace signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
- Provide traffic control assistance using a stop/slow sign or flag to direct highway traffic.
- Apply herbicide to highway rights-of-way to control weeds and other vegetation.
- Remove debris including tires, animal carcasses, spilled items and other obstacles.
Qualifications and Experience
- Level I: No specific education/experience requirements.
- Level II: One year of experience operating heavy equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of safe operation of heavy machinery (Level I) and operation/servicing of equipment (Level II).
- Ability to perform manual labor, operate power equipment, follow instructions, and communicate effectively.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of employment.
- Some positions may require a valid Oklahoma commercial driver's license (Class A or B) with appropriate endorsements; CDL tank vehicle endorsement may be required for some ODOT roles.
- Applicants must pass drug tests prior to appointment.
- Willingness to travel as needed and to work hours other than regular shifts during emergencies; ability to stand, walk, reach, talk, hear; ability to sit, manipulate controls, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; ability to lift up to 80 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally; vision requirements as specified by agency.
