Responsibilities
Maintain a safe and clean work environment and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. Report deficiencies to supervisor and assist in rectifying them. Supervise appropriate care of medical equipment.
Provide pre-attending care for patients with comprehensive assessments of chief complaints and patient needs using the nursing process. Document all nursing assessments in the patient’s medical record with clear, complete, and legible documentation. Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold release of information procedures.
Perform routine nursing duties and demonstrate clinical competency (e.g., phlebotomy, medication administration, vital signs, specimen preparation). Demonstrate competency for complex procedures as applicable (e.g., conscious sedation, chemotherapy administration, specialized wound care).
Interpret and respond to abnormal test results, document interventions, and coordinate with physicians and other health care providers.
Communicate and collaborate with other departments to coordinate patient care; communicate with outside agencies as appropriate.
Triage and prioritize incoming telephone calls using clinical assessment skills and documented service standards.
Manage urgent/emergent medical situations in accordance with organizational protocols and operate emergency equipment as needed.
Serve as a resource for staff and physicians, delegate tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants as appropriate, and proactively address patient care needs.
Initiate and coordinate patient education; ensure patient understanding of materials and return demonstrations; participate in community outreach and staff education as requested.
Qualifications Required:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Registered Professional Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
Current experience within past five years or new nursing graduate within past two years. If less than six months of experience, approval required from NMG Director of Professional Development.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred (may be required for some roles within Oncology).
1-2 years’ experience in ambulatory or acute care.
