The salary range for this position is $34.50 – $55.20 per hour. Placement within the salary range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement follows the collective bargaining agreement.

Description The

Oncology Nurse Clinician

role reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine. The position works in a multidisciplinary environment and requires exceptional interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, and clinical units. The clinician coordinates multidisciplinary care using the nursing process.

Responsibilities

Assess and reassess patients and families for ongoing care needs, using knowledge of high‑risk criteria and initiating appropriate referrals in a timely manner.

Collect and analyze data for all new patients, identify and coordinate multidisciplinary care and appointments, triage information, and schedule as needed.

Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff, coordinating new patients for multidisciplinary clinics and assisting in care plan development.

Serve as a resource to non‑clinical staff regarding prospective patient inquiries.

State rationale for clinical decisions based on critical thinking.

Perform all aspects of patient care to optimize safety and reduce errors.

Identify learning needs, assess support systems, coping mechanisms, and barriers, making referrals as appropriate.

Educate patients, families, and caregivers about diagnosis, treatments, and testing.

Assist with transitions of care and providers.

Communicate effectively and cooperate with team members, respecting other clinical disciplines.

Delegate appropriately to other care providers to meet patient needs timely.

Promote a positive work environment.

Show interest in personal development and growth beyond routine education.

Embrace new employees and team members, supporting their learning and growth.

Maintain knowledge and competency reflecting current nursing practice through ongoing education.

Seek feedback on own practice from peers and colleagues.

Qualifications Required:

Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse program with an RN license in Illinois.

Current nursing experience within the past five years.

BLS certification.

Preferred:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Oncology Certified Nurse.

Sign‑On Bonus:

A $5,000 sign‑on bonus is available for external candidates and candidates who have not worked at Northwestern Medicine in over one year. The bonus requires one year of employment; otherwise it must be repaid.
