Civil Service Title: Civil Engineer III To be considered for this position, candidates must be serving permanently in the title of Civil Engineer, or be reachable on the promotion list (Exam #4522), or the open-competitive list (Exam #4030), or eligible under the 55-A Program. Proof of filing will be required. Serves as a Civil Engineer level 3 in the Engineering Review Section of the Division of Bridges, reviewing technically complex city-let bridge and retaining wall projects to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal standards. Responsibilities

Reviews design calculations and design drawings at various phases of design and construction. Performs seismic analysis and seismic calculations for bridges and retaining walls. Performs complex analysis of bridge load rating calculations. Performs structural analysis for city-owned bridges to ensure their safety against heavy weight trucks and cranes. Performs field inspections of bridges and retaining walls to assess conditions. Reviews construction projects for Bridges and retaining walls. Supervises subordinates in technical and administrative matters. Preferred Skills

Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Knowledge of AASHTOLRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, NYSDOT Bridge Manual, and NYSDOT Bridge Inspection Manual. Knowledge of computer software. Minimum Qualifications

Four years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work. A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License. A master's degree in civil engineering may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required. Additional Information
