Overview

Education Consultant position in the UNM Early Childhood Services Center (ECSC) to support the Statewide Early Childhood Education & Care Department (ECECD) Comprehensive Early Learning and Consultation initiative. UNM ECSC has five Regional Hub locations (Espanola, Gallup, Albuquerque, Roswell, and Las Cruces) and applications are being accepted for positions within each region. Travel within the region and, at times, statewide is required. Interested individuals must include a notation in their cover letter specifying the Regional Hub location they would like to be considered for. The preferred candidate will be able to read, write, and speak in both English and Spanish. Documentation showing how the preferred qualifications are met should be included in the cover letter. Using the Integrated Learning Approach, Education Consultants provide on-site/virtual technical assistance, coaching, and training related to early childhood and criteria content knowledge as professional development to positively influence the quality of learning experiences for educators, administrators, and children in state-funded early childhood initiatives. The team operates with a collaborative, educator/administrator-focused, strength-based approach, building trust and rapport with educators and administrators and partnering with them in an ongoing cycle of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). Through on-site/virtual coaching visits, learning communities, and facilitated training events, consultants support the understanding and implementation of related processes and standards such as the Authentic Observation Documentation Curriculum Planning (AODCP) process, the NM Early Learning Guidelines, Essential Elements of Quality, and assessments such as CLASS and Environment Rating Scales.

Term

: This is a term position subject to continuous employment renewed annually. The end date is subject to change based on annual funding.

Education requirements

: The minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Care and Education or a related degree, including at least twenty-one semester hours of core early childhood education courses.

Conditions of Employment

May require discipline-specific licensure and/or professional certification, as specified by the department in the preferences. Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to comply with the University influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degrees from an accredited institution that exceed the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Documented three years of experience working with infants, toddlers, or preschool children. Documented two years of experience providing technical assistance, training, coaching, or consultation support. Documented three years of experience in family engagement, mental health, culturally relevant practices, curriculum, assessment, and working with early care and learning problems. Experience with observation/documentation/assessment and curriculum processes, developmentally appropriate practice, and designing and implementing quality early childhood learning environments. Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining supportive work relationships in a culturally sensitive manner. Excellent communication skills and the ability to establish trust and rapport with members of diverse communities. Ability to travel statewide; holds a valid New Mexico driver’s license. Technology skills including virtual learning facilitation, word processing, spreadsheets, and data management. New Mexico Trainer Registry Master Level Certified or willingness to obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment. CLASS Reliable and maintain certification yearly or willingness to obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment. New Mexico Integrated Learning Approach for Professional Development certified or willingness to obtain certificate within the first 6 months of employment. New Mexico Adolescent/Infant Mental Health (NMAIMH) Endorsement and maintain yearly or willingness to obtain endorsement within the first 6 months of employment.
