Overview

The UNM Early Childhood Services Center (ECSC) is seeking candidates for Education Consultant to support the Statewide Early Childhood Education & Care Department (ECECD) Comprehensive Early Learning and Consultation initiative. UNM ECSC has five Regional Hub locations (Espanola, Gallup, Albuquerque, Roswell, and Las Cruces) and we are accepting applications for positions within each region. Travel within the region and, at times, statewide, is required. Interested individuals must include a notation in their cover letter that specifies the Regional Hub location they would like to be considered for. The preferred candidate will be able to read, write, and speak in both English and Spanish; candidates should include information documenting how they are meeting the preferred qualifications in their cover letter. The role focuses on providing practice-based coaching and professional development to educators, administrators, and others involved in early childhood initiatives to positively influence the quality of learning experiences for children.

Responsibilities

Using the Integrated Learning Approach, Education Consultants provide on-site/virtual technical assistance, coaching, and training related to early childhood content knowledge to support quality improvement. Responsibilities include: Deliver on-site/virtual coaching visits, learning communities, and training events. Support implementation of tools used in NM PreK funded classrooms and the FOCUS Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System (TQRIS). Collaborate with educators and administrators to build trust, establish rapport, and engage in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) cycles. Facilitate the Authentic Observation Documentation Curriculum Planning (AODCP) process, NM Early Learning Guidelines, Essential Elements of Quality, and use of formal/informal assessments (e.g., CLASS, Environment Rating Scales). Engage in dialogue about best teaching and care practices to support optimal child learning outcomes. The team takes a collaborative, educator/administrator-focused, strength-based approach to support professionals in providing high-quality early care and education.

Qualifications

Minimum:

Bachelor’s degree in Early Care and Education or a related field; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities. Completed degrees above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Preferred: Documented three years of experience working with infants, toddlers, or preschool children. Documented two years of experience providing technical assistance, training, coaching, or consultation support. Experience in family engagement, mental health, culturally relevant practices, curriculum, assessment, and working with early care and learning problems. Experience with observation/assessment and curriculum processes, developmentally appropriate practice, and designing and implementing quality early childhood learning environments. Strong collaboration and culturally sensitive relationship-building skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to establish trust with diverse communities. Ability to travel statewide; holds a valid NM driver’s license. Technology skills including virtual learning facilitation, word processing, spreadsheets, and data management. NM Trainer Registry Master Level Certification or willingness to obtain within first 6 months of employment. CLASS certification or willingness to obtain within first 6 months of employment. NM Integrated Learning Approach for Professional Development certification or willingness to obtain within first 6 months of employment. NMAIMH Endorsement and willingness to obtain within first 6 months of employment.
