Position Summary: The incumbent functions independently providing direct and indirect patient care based on the nursing process for the Gynecologic Oncology Service in H.H. Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Functions as the primary contact for patients. Provides education as needed to the patients/family related to cancer care, diagnostic procedures, medication/chemo treatment and other complex aspects of the plan of care. The nurse incorporates psycho-motor and age-appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other utilizing knowledge of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Ensures the continuum of care includes pre-procedure and surgery, therapy and chemotherapy protocols, hospitalization, discharge planning and follow-up in physician offices. Supports the faculty in clinic for every patient care session. May perform scheduling of office visits and procedures. The nurse coordinator is accountable for the quality of nursing practice. Provides nursing services as needed and assists with other activities as assigned to help grow the practice and referrals to UCI. What It Takes to Be Successful
Required Qualifications
Minimum 6 months experience as an RN in an Inpatient or Outpatient Oncology setting OR 1 year clinical experience with recent completion of cancer basics class from Oncology Nursing Society within the previous year. Current California RN license Current BLS certification All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Ability to work effectively with colleagues, physicians and others as part of a care team Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment Ability to meet attendance standards to support organizational goals Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an outpatient clinical setting Understanding of JCAHO requirements Specialty certification in Oncology Nursing ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy certification Knowledge of care and treatment for gynecological oncology patients Bilingual skills to communicate with patients and families BSN or MSN in Nursing Compensation and Benefits
