This position requires you to be permanent in the Benefits Opportunity Specialist (BOS) or Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist (ABOS) titles for at least one year. It is a provisional appointment; passing the upcoming exam in the ABOS title is necessary to remain in the position. The Family Homelessness and Eviction Prevention Supplement (FHEPS) housing subsidy program assists families with children and domestic violence survivors at risk of shelter entry or retention, by providing rental supplements in addition to their Cash Assistance shelter allowance. The FHEPS Centralized Determination Unit (FDCU) handles eligibility determinations for all FHEPS applications referred from contracted agencies, Legal Aid/Services, HRA’s Benefits Access Center (BAC), Department of Homeless Services, HRA’s Office of Domestic Violence Services, and Homebase for community moves/transfers. The role involves supervising staff responsible for reviewing FHEPS applications, ensuring timely processing, liaising with BACs, monitoring work progress, and managing staff time and leave. Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent plus three years of full-time experience in social/human services or related settings, including client services, employment counseling, or economic opportunity programming. Or a bachelor's degree plus 18 months of full-time experience as a Benefits Opportunity Specialist or similar social/human services work. Preferred Skills

Knowledge of databases such as POS, HRA One Viewer, WMS, NYCWAY, and Cash Assistance eligibility and budgeting.
