The Neurological Surgery Clinic at UC Davis Health is seeking a Clinical Nurse II to provide autonomous nursing care within the Department of Neurological Surgery. The role includes direct patient care, care coordination, education, and adherence to University policies and applicable regulations. The nurse will assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate a comprehensive nursing plan of care and will act as a resource to other nursing staff.
Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to a diversified patient population and apply knowledge, experience, and judgment to set priorities and evaluate clinical situations.
Deliver patient and staff education; demonstrate leadership and accountability for own practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
Coordinate ongoing care for neurosurgery patients, including symptom management, EMR communications, prior authorizations for medications, and medication refills.
Participate in triage, pre-operative clearance documentation, medication reconciliation, wound evaluation, suture/staple removal, patient rooming, and vital signs documentation in the clinic setting.
Maintain autonomy within ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance; exercise independent judgment within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams.
Uphold current knowledge of neurological conditions and neurosurgical procedures; provide patient education and care for patients undergoing neurosurgical interventions.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and adapt to change in a positive, professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
At least two (2) years of RN experience
Recent RN experience in a Neurosurgical Clinic
Experience providing ongoing care coordination for patients, including symptom telephone calls, EMR message management, prior authorizations, and medication refills
Experience and understanding of the medical management of neurological conditions
Experience with neurosurgical procedures and patient education for neurosurgical interventions
Direct patient care experience including wound care, dressing changes, drawing lab specimens, administering immunizations and medications
Knowledge of neurological conditions and neurosurgery patient populations (Craniotomy, VP Shunt, Deep Brain Stimulation, Nerve Stimulation, Implantable Pulse Generators, Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy)
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; ability to use medical terminology
Commitment to excellence in patient care; effective interpersonal skills; accountability and professionalism
Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation; knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice
Basic computer skills
Preferred Qualifications
Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (AMB-BC)
BSN
Two (2) years of experience with Neurosurgery, Neurology and/or Neurosciences

Salary: $73.72 - $99.20 hourly

Position involves telephone triage, in-basket management, pre-operative clearance, medication reconciliation, clinic wound evaluation, suture/staple removal, patient rooming and vital signs, and surgeon/provider template management
