This course will provide students with an in-depth look at the major issues in Civil Procedure, including subject matter and personal jurisdiction, the process of filing and responding to a civil lawsuit, and how additional parties may join or participate in a lawsuit. The course covers discovery, sanctions for noncompliance with discovery obligations, choice of law issues in civil litigation (including what law applies in federal courts), the trial process, the right to a jury trial, and issues surrounding appeal. It also reviews the effect of a judgment on future litigation through res judicata and collateral estoppel. The course will be taught on campus, so instructors must be local. Applicants should note that this position is an Adjunct appointment, typically teaching one course per year, with possible variations as approved by the dean. Responsibilities

Teach the Civil Procedure course for LLM students, covering key topics listed above. Develop and deliver course materials, assessments, and examinations. Provide on-campus instruction and engage with students in a graduate-level setting. Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) degree required. At least five years of practical experience, including experience in Civil Procedure or related course matter. Teaching experience is preferred. Local to the Los Angeles area for on-campus instruction. Employment details

USC reserves the “Adjunct” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC who are employed full-time elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach one course per year, with potential exceptions approved by the dean. To ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and university policy, Adjunct Lecturers must complete mandated training by specified deadlines. Trainings include USC’s Harassment Prevention Training (at hire and every two years), Integrity and Accountability Code Training (at hire), Information Security training annually, Workplace Violence Prevention Plan training annually, and other trainings as required by job responsibilities.
