Role and Responsibilities

About The Role : Effectively manage the day-to-day implementation of Safety and Quality Management programs. Embed and drive a culture of safety, quality assurance and improvement across lab operations. EHS Essential Functions

Support day-to-day environmental health, safety, and risk management programs: auditing, regulatory recordkeeping/reporting, permit renewals, OSHA/EPA/fire code compliance, injury and incident investigations, and safety compliance. Stay informed on OSHA regulations affecting operations. Prepare, maintain, and monitor department records and reports required by law. Investigate incidents and communicate with affected employees, managers, HR and the Director of Safety. Active involvement in injury and illness case management. Audit hazardous materials management programs; perform weekly inspections of hazardous waste areas; coordinate waste pickups. Coordinate vendors and establish protocols to address EH&S issues affecting students, faculty, and staff. Identify EH&S hazards and working conditions; take appropriate action. Develop relationships across sites to bolster a Safety Culture; serve as primary safety contact for site; coordinate Safety Committee meetings and safety walks. Quality Essential Functions

Manage on-site team to implement quality programs and QMS management. Prioritize activities to meet business, colleague, and customer needs. Drive accountability in the QMS, improving on-time delivery and reducing re-work. Maintain and extend site accreditations (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025) and other regulatory requirements. Ensure accreditations are maintained and extended as agreed with management. Ensure QMS controls govern quality inspections; establish QA/QC programs to reduce cost of poor quality and improve regulatory compliance. Manage A2LA and other assessments and visits from customers and regulators as required. Training

Coordinate and manage safety training programs and regulatory training (IIPP, CPR, First Aid, AED, fire extinguisher, GHS, heat stress, forklift, onboarding, worksite safety practices, fire prevention, handling of hazardous materials). Coordinate annual refresher training; manage and update safety data sheet database; audit chemical inventory. Coordinate drills (fire safety, shelter-in-place, active shooter) and other emergency procedures. Coordinate and manage quality training programs; maintain training records and annual schedule. Requirements

Minimum 5 years’ experience as a safety, quality, or environmental regulatory manager with proven success; managerial experience. Experience managing ISO 17025 or A2LA quality programs; explosives experience preferred. Certification as a safety or quality professional (preferably both). High-energy self-starter able to work with all levels of the organization and with state/federal agencies. Extensive knowledge of federal and state safety regulations and OSHA. Must be a US citizen. Minimum Education And Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a technical, safety, or quality-related field. Minimum 5 years management experience. Minimum of 2 years in environmental regulatory field. Minimum of 5 years experience in ISO quality environment. Experience with A2LA, ISO 17025, and quality system rules; planning and implementation. Experience managing a multi-functional team.
