About The Role
Effectively manage the day-to-day implementation of Safety and Quality Management programs. Embed and drive a culture of safety, quality assurance and improvement of quality and safety programs in all parts of lab operations.
EHS Essential Functions
Provide support for the day-to-day management of the environmental health, safety, and risk management programs, including auditing and regulatory recordkeeping/reporting, permit renewals, OSHA, EPA and fire code compliance, injury and event investigations, safety violations, unsafe conditions, non-compliance activities and document and investigate all incidents involving property damage.
Keep informed of developments concerning OSHA related regulations that affect the EHS considerations for operations.
Prepare, maintain, and monitor department records, manifests and reports that pertain to environmental health and safety as required by law.
Investigate and prepare incident reports for near misses, accidents, and injuries. Communicate with affected employees, managers, HR and Director of Safety.
Active involvement in injury and illness case management.
Audit hazardous materials management programs, perform weekly inspections of hazardous waste collection areas and coordinate hazardous waste pick-ups when needed.
Coordinate vendors and establish protocols and guidelines to address and find solutions for environmental health or safety issues impacting students, faculty, and staff.
Identify environmental health and safety hazards and working conditions and take appropriate action.
Develop relationships with departments across Site to bolster a Safety Culture
Primary contact and safety resource for site.
Coordinate and facilitate Safety Committee meetings to review injury and safety reports.
Coordinate safety walks.
Quality Essential Functions
Manage on-site team to ensure successful implementation of quality programs to employees and QMS management.
Prioritize activities to meet the needs of the business, colleagues and customers.
Drive accountability and ownership of the quality management system, focusing on improving on time delivery and eliminating re-work.
Maintenance and scope extension of site accreditations, e.g. ISO/IEC 17025, and other regulatory requirements.
Ensure accreditations are maintained and extended, as agreed with operational management and Corporate Quality.
Ensuring the necessary controls are in place in QMS, to govern quality inspections.
Establish and implement appropriate QA/QA programs to reduce the cost of poor quality and improve compliance with regulations and standards, company objectives and customer requirements.
Manage A2LA and other assessments and visits from customer and other regulatory bodies as required.
Training
Coordinate and manage safety training programs, including record-keeping for regulatory training such as IIPP, CPR, First Aid, AED, fire extinguisher, GHS, heat stress, forklift, new hire onboarding, worksite safety practices, fire prevention, proper handling and use of hazardous material and equipment.
Coordinate annual refresher training of the databased issued training classes. Manage and update the safety data sheet database and conduct audits in each department to ensure accuracy of the chemical inventory.
Work with GM to coordinate regular fire safety, shelter-in-place, active shooter, and other emergency drills on Site.
Coordinate and manage quality training programs, including record-keeping and adherence to the annual training schedule.
Improve existing training materials with practical application and review of existing policies and procedures.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a safety, quality, or environmental regulatory manager with a record of experience and proven success.
Managerial experience.
Prior experience with management of an ISO 17025 or A2LA quality programs.
Experience with explosives desired.
Certification as a safety or quality professional (preferably both)
Must be a high energy self-starter with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the NTS organization as well as State/Federal Agencies.
Must possess extensive knowledge of federal and state laws regarding safety regulations and OHSA.
Must be a US Citizen.
Minimum Education And Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical, safety, or quality related field.
Minimum 5 years management experience.
Minimum of 2 years of related work in an Environmental Regulatory related field.
Minimum of 5 years of related experience in ISO quality environment
Experience with A2LA, ISO 17025, and Quality system rules, regulations, including planning and implementation.
Experience managing a multi-functional team.
