Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled and motivated
Safety Manager
to support one of the most iconic and consequential infrastructure initiatives in the United States — the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP). We are working in partnership with Parsons and Mace as part of the
MPA Delivery Partner team , selected by the Gateway Development Commission to deliver this transformative project. The HTP is a critical component of the broader Gateway Program — one of the most ambitious and impactful transportation initiatives in the nation — and is designed to strengthen mobility, enhance resiliency, and ensure the long-term reliability of the Northeast Corridor. The project encompasses the construction of a new, two-track rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River, along with the full rehabilitation of the existing 113-year-old North River Tunnel. This vital infrastructure supports more than 200,000 daily passengers via Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT and serves as a backbone for economic activity and connectivity between New York and New Jersey. As part of this high-performing, multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver excellence on one of the most technically complex and high-profile projects in the world. Role accountabilities: Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive safety program specific to the heavy civil tunnel project. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and address potential hazards. Collaborate with the Safety Director to develop and deliver safety training programs for all project personnel. Ensure that all workers are adequately trained on safety procedures, equipment usage, and emergency response protocols. Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and workshops to reinforce safety awareness. Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and develop corrective action plans. Maintain accurate records of all safety incidents, ensuring timely reporting and analysis. Monitor and enforce adherence to safety policies and regulations by all project personnel. Work closely with subcontractors to ensure their safety programs align with project requirements. Collaborate with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits. Develop and implement emergency response plans for various potential scenarios. Conduct regular drills and exercises to ensure effective responses to emergencies. Communicate safety expectations, updates, and best practices to all project team members. Foster open communication channels for reporting safety concerns and suggestions. Ensure the availability and proper use of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE). Conduct regular inspections of safety equipment to verify functionality and compliance. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety processes and procedures. Implement initiatives to enhance the overall safety performance of the project. Required Qualifications: 10+ yrs. safety compliance experience on heavy civil construction projects Key Skills and Abilities : TBM (tunnel boring machine) experience Possess OSHA certifications Relevant safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CHST) Arcadis is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
