Role Description Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Environmental Compliance Field Inspector Manager to support one of the most iconic and consequential infrastructure initiatives in the United States — the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP). In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing the construction work plans and regular reporting on compliance and environmental permitting requirements.
We are working in partnership with Parsons and Mace as part of the MPA Delivery Partner team, selected by the Gateway Development Commission to deliver this transformative project. The HTP is a critical component of the broader Gateway Program — one of the most ambitious and impactful transportation initiatives in the nation — and is designed to strengthen mobility, enhance resiliency, and ensure the long‑term reliability of the Northeast Corridor. The project encompasses the construction of a new, two‑track rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River, along with the full rehabilitation of the existing 113‑year‑old North River Tunnel. This vital infrastructure supports more than 200,000 daily passengers via Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT and serves as a backbone for economic activity and connectivity between New York and New Jersey.
Delivering excellence on one of the most technically complex and high‑profile projects in the world, you will help add lasting value to transportation infrastructure and regional connectivity.
Role Accountabilities
Perform field audits of environmental documentation and field activities.
Review and prepare written technical reports documenting environmental construction compliance.
Report inconsistencies, environmental permitting requirements, and contract specifications to the environmental compliance team.
Provide oversight of construction as it relates to environmental compliance.
Interpret scientific data and specifications.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, or a closely related discipline.
8+ years of prior experience performing construction site inspections.
Key Skills and Abilities
Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to travel throughout the NY/NJ Metro Area.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience providing environmental inspections in and for NY, NJ and/or NYC agencies.
OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training (and current refreshers).
