Overview
The Department of Physics at Illinois State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a research focus in Computational or Theoretical Physics. Exceptional candidates in all areas of physics will be considered, with preference to those working at the interface of Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Information/Quantum Materials or Astrophysics/Astronomy. The successful candidate will establish a vigorous, externally funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students. The department hosts a Physics BS, a Teacher Education BS, and an MS program; facilities include an on-site scanning electron microscopy facility, a planetarium, and a machine shop, with access to the university-managed high-performance computational cluster. The position will support instruction of physics courses for the College of Engineering. Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and graduate physics courses; contribute to curriculum development. Develop and pursue cross-functional, integrative curriculum with high levels of student engagement. Establish and maintain a vigorously funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students. Qualifications
PhD in Physics or closely related field by start date. Strong research potential in computational or theoretical physics; preference for candidates at the interface of AI and Quantum Information/Quantum Materials or Astrophysics/Astronomy. Ability to teach and contribute to departmental and College of Engineering courses. Additional Information
