If you have never taught the SEI Endorsement Course or if you last taught the SEI Endorsement Course prior to SY21-22, you should register for NEW Instructor training. New instructors will be required to complete a 3 hour online module prior to the training session. If you have taught the SEI Endorsement Course since SY21-22 but did not attend training in SY24-25, and are not currently listed as an
Approved Instructor
you
must
complete a Returning Instructor training before you may teach the course again. If you are currently listed as an
Approved Instructor
you are welcome to attend a Returning Instructor training, but not required to do so until SY27-28. All training sessions will be delivered online via Zoom. No travel is required. NEW Instructor Trainings Saturday, September 13th, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm Saturday, December 6 th , 9:00 am – 12:30 pm RETURNING Instructor Trainings Saturday, September 6 th , 9:00 am – 11:30 am Saturday, December 13 th , 9:00 am – 11:30 am BPS Office Multilingual and Multicultural Education (OMME) is seeking to stipend RETELL instructors for the educator course and RETELL instruction for the administrator course. The RETELL instructor must have a commitment to address the persistent gap in academic proficiency experienced by multilingual students. At the heart of this initiative are training and licensure requirements for the Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement, which core academic and career vocational teachers of multilinguals and principals/assistant principals and supervisors/directors who supervise or evaluate such teachers must obtain. OMME seeks instructors for both SEI Endorsement Teacher and SEI Administrator courses during SY25-26. Courses may be taught remotely via zoom or be held on-site at a BPS school. RESPONSIBILITIES: A Rethinking Equity in the Teaching of English Language Learners (RETELL) instructor is responsible for creating a Zoom link for the course, teaching the DESE SEI Endorsement course, taking attendance and grading all assignments in the LMS. Required Qualifications: Hold a Master’s Degree in the field of EL Education or Linguistics or a Master’s Degree in a related field; Hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Massachusetts Teacher and/or Administrator license. Completed the DESE RETELL Training or Refresher course and is currently eligible to teach. Possess a minimum of three years experience teaching and/or leading English language learners Experience with English learners with disabilities and the intersection of language and learning differences. Possess a working knowledge of various state and federal rules and regulations that pertain to services for ELs. Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, such as OMME and other RETELL instructors. Demonstrated delivery of effective professional development opportunities that utilize teacher leadership and a strong understanding of the Common Core and World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment; Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of closing the achievement gap for ELs and EL instructional strategies, evaluation, and theories; Excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills; and Experience working with diverse student populations, including teaching EL students for a minimum of five years. Strong organizational skills, with outstanding attention to detail; Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. Stipend ($5,575 Teacher course/ $2,000 Admin course) OMME reserves the right to change the schedule(s) of the course at any time
