AI Ethics, Privacy and Regulation for LLM Students

This course will explore the ethical, legal, and privacy implications involved with using Artificial Intelligence. It will focus on case law, statutes, and regulations regarding generative AI. Students will study current and proposed regulations, both at the national and international levels. With respect to ethics, the focus will be on bias, discrimination, and accountability. Students will also review the rules of professional responsibility to understand ethical issues relevant to the legal profession. Lastly, students will explore the challenges posed by AI-powered systems that collect and process personal and biometric data. Qualifications Candidate must have a JD and at least five years of practical experience, including experience in the course subject matter. Teaching experience is preferred. In addition, this course will be taught on campus, so instructors must be local. Employment and Appointment Details USC reserves the Adjunct appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year but, in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean. Adjunct Lecturers are required to complete specific training requirements as a condition of employment to ensure compliance with federal, state or local regulatory requirements as well as university policy and procedures. Trainings may include Harassment Prevention Training at the time of hire and every two years thereafter, Integrity and Accountability Code Training at the time of hire, Information Security training annually, Workplace Violence Prevention Plan training annually, and other trainings based on specific job responsibilities.
