$30.00 per hour GENERAL INTRODUCTION

The Archbishop, as the visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church continuously in communion with all its members. He ensures that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up the faithful and spread the Gospel. (Apostolorum Successores 8). He must oversee that all affairs related to the administration of the archdiocese are properly coordinated and aligned to serve the good of the people of God entrusted to him. (Apostolorum Successores 177). Each position in the chancery helps extend the ministry of the Archbishop in specific ways as outlined in the position description. GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Director of Pastoral Care & Outreach, the Catholic chaplain (pastoral care minister) provides pastoral presence at the King County Correctional Facility in downtown Seattle and serves as a resource on criminal justice issues for local Catholic parishes and faith communities. This is a part-time position (10 hours/week), supported by the four King County deaneries and supervised by the chancery. ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES

Develop and maintain a consistent and effective pastoral presence at the King County Correctional Facility through dialogue with the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention regarding inmate access and policies. Facilitate the presence of priests for Mass, Penance, and Anointing of the Sick when appropriate. Coordinate and conduct liturgical services when a priest is unavailable. Engage in pastoral listening and presence with inmates as needed. Recruit and train volunteers for direct ministry to inmates within the facility. Facilitate Bible studies, retreats, faith formation classes, RCIA, prayer experiences, etc., during designated Catholic activities. Attend regular supervision meetings with the Director of Pastoral Care & Outreach. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Primary: Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop and providing pastoral presence in the assigned facility. Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the Church, supporting collaboration between lay and ordained ministers. Ability to apply Catholic faith to those affected by crime and incarceration. Active member of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Church. Education: Bachelor's degree in theology, pastoral studies, or relevant experience. Clinical Pastoral Education preferred. Experience: At least five years of pastoral ministry experience. Demonstrated experience in leading prayer. Other Elements: Ability to qualify for work in DAJD facilities. Ability to work with marginalized and diverse populations. Knowledge of substance abuse and related dynamics. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
