We’re seeking a passionate and driven
Sous Chef
to join our leadership team as we prepare to open FOLK. The ideal candidate brings genuine enthusiasm for food, hospitality, and teamwork. As a key member of our culinary team, the Sous Chef will embody positivity, creativity, and adaptability. This is an exciting opportunity to join a seasoned, diverse, and dynamic group dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can learn, collaborate, and grow.
Responsibilities
Natural leader and collaborator who inspires through teaching, guidance, and clear communication; works closely with the Chef de Cuisine to execute dishes and develop menus.
Oversee kitchen operations with a focus on quality, consistency, and timely service.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and DOH compliance.
Support inventory management, food cost control, and sustainable kitchen practices.
Train and mentor staff; ensure energetic, team-first culture.
Ensure weekend (Saturday + Sunday) availability as required.
Qualifications
5+ years of kitchen experience, including 3+ years in leadership or advanced line cook roles
Prior experience in modern or fine dining restaurants
Deep understanding of spice, flavor balance, and innovation with global-inspired ingredients
Excellent knife skills, plating techniques, and attention to detail
NYC Food Handler Certificate (ServSafe a plus)
Familiarity with NYC DOH regulations and kitchen safety standards
Ability to manage prep lists, inventory, and ordering systems efficiently
Strong communication and mentoring skills within a team setting
Ability to lift 30+ lbs and stand for extended periods (up to 10-hour shifts)
Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
