role at
Bits to Atoms . Bits to Atoms has partnered with Hybron to fill its Senior Materials Engineer role. To learn more about Hybron, you can review their website here. Company Overview
Hybron Technologies is a defense technology startup pioneering a new manufacturing method for fiber-reinforced polymer composites that enables complex parts to be produced with greater strength, higher quality, and at 10 - 100x the speed of traditional methods. Our backers include Northrop Grumman, and we are actively fulfilling major purchase orders for the DoD and several major defense primes. Our current focus is applying our proprietary process to artillery shell production – one of the most mission-critical needs facing the DoD today, and essential to maintaining deterrence. If you want to join a fast-growing company building capabilities for the warfighter while reshoring U.S. manufacturing, then we want to speak with you. About the Role
This is a full-time, in-person role at our El Segundo pilot facility. As our Senior Materials Engineer, you’ll develop and optimize impregnation and molding materials for Hybron’s composite process. You’ll design, test, and validate resin systems, fiber/resin interfaces, and processing parameters to deliver superior mechanical performance and consistency at scale. The ideal candidate has expertise in polymer chemistry or materials science, thrives in fast-paced environments, and works hands-on in both lab and production settings. What we’re looking for
Must be a U.S. Person pursuant to EAR and ITAR definitions Develop, qualify, and scale resin systems for impregnation and composites molding Optimize fiber/matrix interfaces, cure cycles, and processing parameters for strength, toughness, and reliability Conduct mechanical and thermal characterization of materials (tensile, DMA, DSC, TGA, etc.) Troubleshoot material performance issues and translate findings into process improvements Bachelor’s or Master’s in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field; 5+ years of experience in composites or polymer R&D/manufacturing Define and own Hybron’s materials development roadmap Lead material qualification programs for defense and aerospace customers Establish in-house resin formulation and testing capabilities Build and mentor a cross-functional materials engineering team Translate lab breakthroughs into scaled, production-ready material systems Stock options Paid time off 401K (1:1 employer match up to 4% of salary)
