Overview Water Resources Engineer role at

office. This position uses professional experience and technical knowledge of civil engineering, hydrology and hydraulics to support water resource projects focusing on drinking water treatment and distribution system planning, design and construction administration.

Your Impact

With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from samples of water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.

Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements and statistical analysis of environmental data.

Perform basic professional water resources engineering work relating to water supply/quality/management, stormwater facilities, irrigation facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, canal development, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, waste disposal, pollution control and treatment, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of water resources.

Provide input to ensure planning and management of available water supply is adequately leveraged, treated, improved upon and remains safe for various end uses – recreationally, commercially, and/or industrially.

Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on various environmental issues, water cycles, and flow to determine the influence of weather and other environmental forces.

Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and software.

Assist technical staff and project managers with environmental risk identification and assessment, offering input and analysis with low-level threat mitigation activities and remediation projects.

Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.

Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field work permitting.

Complete training on assigned tasks.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.

1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience in water resources engineering.

Knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues.

Familiarity with the concepts of professional water resources engineering work relating to water supply, quality, management, and treatment for various end uses – recreationally, commercially, and/or industrially.

Highly familiar with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

Familiarity with techniques used in identifying, measuring, sampling and studying environmental control.

Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Engineer in Training Certification.

Prior design experience.

A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
