The MCF (Mission Critical Facilities) Senior Project Engineer, Mechanical guides the technical design of data center projects as subject matter expert, mentor, and resource to the technical team. The role delegates, leads, and directs work of Project Engineers and Designers. It conceptualizes, executes, and ensures quality throughout the design process to meet clients’ needs and expectations. The Senior Project Engineer will also have Supervisor and Mentor responsibilities for junior staff and be a resource to other project engineers. The data center industry is continually evolving, and this is an ideal opportunity for candidates who enjoy working on technically challenging projects that require cutting edge designs. Aside from the preferred locations listed, this position is open to any location with a Stantec office presence, for the right candidate. Your Responsibilities
Assist the business development team in new project pursuits by providing input on RFPs/RFQs and participate in project interviews and presentations. Manage technical project process and scope of work within own discipline; review and track scope, schedule, and budgeted hours; identify and resolve inconsistencies with the project manager. Delegate tasks to project engineers and designers within own discipline as appropriate. Follow quality management processes; conduct project reviews and approvals before QA/QC reviews performed by the technical authority. Build and maintain strong client relations; understand and articulate project and design requirements, progress, challenges, and troubleshooting to clients and technical staff. Lead technical discussions and mechanical workgroups with project stakeholders as trusted advisor, identify key requirements, and adapt design to meet project objectives. Coordinate with all disciplines to fully integrate work and client requests into design. Act as supervisor and resource to the technical design team; support and assist staff education, training, and development. Actively participate in the data center engineering/professional community to stay up-to-date with new requirements and technologies and pursue professional growth. Identify opportunities to improve and standardize project deliverables across Stantec MCF business centers. Contribute to development of design guides, technical memos, calculation templates, and other materials related to data center design. Capabilities and Credentials
Extensive experience in mission critical/data center design concepts. Experience working on large-scale projects with varied stakeholders. Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices, concepts, principles, codes, and standards in own discipline; basic knowledge of practices in other disciplines. Strong problem-solving skills; able to conceptualize and develop solutions for multifaceted systems. Strong communication skills; effectively convey scope, schedule, and budget to clients, coworkers, and technical teams. Adept at writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Proficient in applicable software (Autodesk, BIM 360, Revit, Trace 700); working knowledge of hydraulic modeling software and CFD software preferred. Knowledge of the construction process and interaction with design; able to analyze, problem solve, and train others; organized and detail-oriented; collaborative. Able to independently resolve complex problems within the engineer’s discipline. Education and Experience
Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required. Minimum 10 years related industry experience preferred. Mission critical / data center experience required. Registered professional engineer (PE) license or other professional certification as appropriate.
