Overview

Electrical Senior Project Engineer - Mission Critical Facilities (MCF) at Stantec. The MCF Senior Project Engineer, Electrical guides the electrical technical design of data center projects as subject matter expert, mentor, and resource to the technical team. The position delegates, leads, and directs work of Project Engineers and Designers. The role conceptualizes, executes, and ensures quality throughout the design process to meet clients’ needs and expectations. The Senior Project Engineer will also have Supervisor and Mentor responsibilities for junior staff and be a resource to other project engineers. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who enjoy technically challenging projects in data center design. Aside from the preferred locations listed, this position is open to any location with a Stantec office presence for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

Assists the business development team in new project pursuits by providing input on RFPs/RFQs and participates in project interviews and presentations.

Manages technical project process and scope within own discipline; reviews and tracks scope, schedule, and budgeted hours; resolves inconsistencies with the project manager.

Delegates tasks to project engineers and designers within own discipline as appropriate.

Follows quality management process; conducts project reviews and approvals before QA/QC reviews by the technical authority.

Builds and maintains strong client relations; communicates project requirements, progress, challenges, and troubleshooting to clients and technical staff.

Leads technical discussions and mechanical workgroups with project stakeholders as trusted advisor; identifies key requirements and adapts design to meet project objectives.

Coordinates with all disciplines to fully integrate work and client requests into design.

Acts as supervisor and resource to technical design team; supports staff education, training, and development.

Participates in the data center engineering/professional community to stay up-to-date with new requirements and technologies; attends meetings, seminars, conferences, or writes articles for trade magazines.

Identifies opportunities to improve and standardize project deliverables across Stantec MCF business centers.

Contributes to development of design guides, technical memos, and calculation templates related to data center design.

Capabilities and Credentials

Extensive experience in mission critical/data center design concepts.

Experience working on large-scale projects with varied stakeholders.

Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices, concepts, principles, codes, and standards in own discipline; basic knowledge of other disciplines.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to conceptualize and develop solutions for multifaceted systems.

Strong communicator who effectively conveys scope, schedule, and budget to clients and teams.

Adept at writing comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.

Proficient in applicable software (Autodesk, BIM 360, Revit, MS Excel); working knowledge or proficiency in power systems software (e.g., SKM) and power cable ampacity calculation software (e.g., CYME/CYMCAP) is preferred.

Knowledge of the construction process and interaction with design; able to analyze, solve problems, and train others; organized and detail-oriented; collaborative.

Able to independently resolve complex problems within the engineer’s discipline.

Education and Experience

Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required.

Minimum 7 years related industry experience preferred.

Mission critical / data center experience required.

Registered professional engineer (PE) license or other applicable professional certification.

Pay ranges depend on location: e.g., MN/VT/CA/NY regions and CO/HI/IL/MD regions are listed with specific ranges; final compensation based on education, experience, and location.

Pay Transparency: Pay ranges are provided where required by law; final compensation is based on individual qualifications. Some roles may be bonus eligible.
