Overview

Engineer-Distribution Capacity Planning at ComEd. This position leads and supports capacity planning to ensure the reliability, resilience, and efficiency of ComEd’s electric distribution system. It develops and applies advanced planning methodologies, load forecasting, and system modeling to anticipate future grid needs driven by electrification, distributed energy resources (DER), climate impacts, and policy mandates such as CEJA. The role collaborates across engineering, operations, and regulatory teams to identify and justify infrastructure investments, optimize system performance, and support decarbonization. It provides technical expertise and strategic guidance to inform capital planning, grid modernization initiatives, and customer programs. The candidate may be required to work extended hours for storms or energy delivery emergencies. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Perform capacity planning studies of the ComEd distribution system using CYME power flow analysis software. Prepare load forecasts and analyze modification and modernization impacts to the distribution grid. Design electrical drawings in AutoCAD and prepare scope and cost estimates for general load growth, reliability, DER interconnection, voltage optimization, distribution automation, electrification, data center, and substation projects. Evaluate, develop, and lead projects with significant financial and operational impact. Plan, write, and execute tasks for project deliverables. Provide support to the distribution operations department for planned or emergency switching requests. Participate in or lead cross-departmental meetings to ensure alignment (may include direct oversight of contractors). Serve as an expert for a designated planning area. Support regulatory filings and may serve as an expert witness or provide expert opinions on planning-related information. Recommend strategies to improve system performance and cost-effectiveness to align with company goals. Provide mentorship, peer review, and technical training to capacity planning staff and engineers. Engage with technical and industry organizations to stay informed on emerging technologies and challenges in the utility sector, and make recommendations for new technologies, engineering techniques, and tools. Provide technical assistance in support of senior engineers and managers. Apply technical knowledge to promote a safe work environment and enhance customer satisfaction. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering 2 - 4 years of professional engineering experience Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches and engineering theory Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline, installations, or services Preferred Qualifications

Engineer in Training License Strong written and oral communication/presentation skills, report generation & technical writing skills Interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with peers and managers Consulting and needs assessment skills Time, project management, and multi-tasking skills Benefits
