Join a leading utility team responsible for maintaining and enhancing the
reliability
of the electric transmission system. This union-represented position focuses on long-term strategic transmission planning, modeling, compliance, and technical support across multi-year infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with
NERC
and
WECC
standards. Key Responsibilities: Lead
transmission planning studies
to ensure safe and efficient grid operation. Conduct long-term strategy development, transmission assessments, and system studies. Guide generator testing and model development, including HVDC or non-standard equipment. Support the development of the Annual Transmission Planning Assessment and Expansion Plan. Coordinate basecase preparation and transmission load forecast approval processes. Serve as a technical expert for internal stakeholders (Engineering, Operations, Asset Strategy). Lead interconnection standards, handbook development, and NERC/WECC compliance. Guide junior engineers and manage the implementation of complex, large-scale projects. Prepare filings and lead interactions with regulatory bodies (FERC, NERC, CAISO, etc.). Conduct Gap Analysis and support short/long-term capital investment planning. Required Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field Minimum 8 years’ experience in electrical engineering, power system planning, or operations Nice-to-Have Experience: Knowledge of NERC/WECC reliability standards Familiarity with HVDC, RAS design, and CPCN/PTC project implementation Experience with Client PSLF or similar load flow tools System operations, asset strategy, or protection engineering background Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering California PE license (Electrical) Required Skills: Power system theory and transmission analysis Transmission planning and interconnection studies NERC/WECC compliance reporting and modeling Preferred Skills: Transmission load forecasting Python, Matlab, VBA, EPCL scripting Project permitting and regulatory interfacing Gap analysis and capital planning Dynamic stability and non-standard equipment modeling Additional Skills: Interconnection handbook and standards development Annual Transmission Assessment planning F1004 forms, RIMS, FNM compliance ESC union environment familiarity Permit to Construct (PTC), CPCN processes About the Client:
