Overview
As a
Manufacturing Layout Engineer
at ENC, you will play a critical role in shaping efficient, safe, and high-quality production environments for new product launches. You ’ll lead the design and optimization of production lines, sub-assembly cells, WIP zones, and material presentation systems to meet takt time, quality, and safety objectives. This position requires close collaboration across multiple teams—including Tooling, Facilities, EHS, Quality, and Operations—to develop innovative layouts, balance lines, conduct time studies, and support hands-on implementation on the shop floor. Your expertise will help drive lean manufacturing practices, ensure ergonomic and repeatable processes, and enable ENC to deliver products with excellence and precision.
Key Responsibilities
Develop comprehensive line and cell layouts using AutoCAD, including benches, racks, kitting areas, tugger routes, point-of-use storage, and operator reach zones. Collaborate with tooling engineers to design fixtures and material handling solutions that promote safe, ergonomic, and repeatable work practices. Define standard work sequences and partner with Industrial Engineering teams on line balancing and manpower planning to optimize productivity. Design supermarkets and kitting zones that incorporate visual management, WIP limits, and takt time alignment to support efficient changeovers. Implement lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, shadow boards, and visual controls, and partner with Quality teams to integrate in-station quality checks and error-proofing measures. Support physical builds and line bring-up activities, including floor marking, rack and bench placement, clearance validation, and rapid iteration during early launch phases. Document and share best practices by capturing lessons learned, updating CAD and station standards, and publishing layout packages for operators and leadership.
Required Qualifications
BachelorA0s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering, with direct responsibility for line or cell layout in assembly environments. Proficiency in AutoCAD for both station-level and line-level design, including the ability to produce shop-floor-ready prints. Demonstrated experience applying lean manufacturing principles such as 5S, SMED, standardized work, and kanban systems. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively on the shop floor with technicians, leads, and supervisors. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across operations, tooling, facilities, EHS, and quality functions.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience conducting time studies and performing basic line balancing. Proven track record of launching new products or production lines in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments. Lean Six Sigma training or certification, with a strong emphasis on lean methodologies.
Tools & Systems
AutoCAD (required). Microsoft Office and Excel; Power BI or Tableau for basic analysis (preferred). Familiarity with PlantSim, FlexSim, or similar simulation tools (a plus). Exposure to MES and digital work instruction systems (a plus).
