Senior Engineer, Mechanical – Battery Team at Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. (Towson, MD) – Hybrid Come build something that matters. We are a global team of professionals working with brands including DEWALT, BLACK+DECKER, CRAFTSMAN, STANLEY, CUB CADET, and HUSTLER. The job involves working as part of the T&O team in a hybrid role. Responsibilities
Evaluate, approve, and implement engineering change orders. Apply knowledge of electromechanical assemblies and/or battery packs to design and development activities. Work with cross-functional teams to qualify alternate battery cells, electronic modules, and other components-based battery packs; support second-source development for subcomponents. Perform structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis packages. Conduct thermal analysis and thermal management for high-power electronic assemblies. Collaborate with model shop and suppliers to obtain prototypes and participate in product builds at contract manufacturers. Coordinate with disciplines such as ID, Marketing, Manufacturing, Compliance, Safety, and Purchasing to understand design considerations and CTQs. Perform tolerance stack-ups, DFMEA/PFMEA, process control plans, release Engineering Changes. Design test plans and analyze results from advanced testing; release 2D drawings and manage BOM from prototype to production in PLM systems. Work with design teams to launch time-critical products; collaborate with test and manufacturing groups. Maintain high organization to manage multiple projects; write test plans and assist in fixture/test equipment development. Create 2D drawings with GD&T proficiency and approve FPIs and test reviews. Utilize lab equipment (data loggers, power supplies, oscilloscopes, electronic loads) for testing. Apply Design of Experiments and other scientific methods to develop/qualify processes. Qualifications
B.S. or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering (MSME preferred). 3-5 years of experience in product development of Li-ion battery packs and Battery Management Systems. Working knowledge of 3D modeling software (CATIA V5 preferred); familiarity with PCB design is desired. Experience with manufacturing processes for electronic and other products; ability to design plastic and metallic components with various materials. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet schedule/cost commitments. Excellent communication skills for working with customers and suppliers; supplier development for key components and contract manufacturers. Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stacks, failure analysis, and quality improvement practices. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally. Details
