Base pay range $40.30/hr - $60.45/hr

Major Responsibilities

Positioning of patients and proper selection of technical factors and equipment to obtain scans of optimal quality, using immobilization techniques as needed.

Assist physicians with recommendations for obtaining optimal studies by suggesting selections for technical factors.

Obtain pertinent patient history for each procedure to provide the radiologist with adequate information before interpretation.

Work closely with the radiologist to ensure optimal outcomes for procedures; maintain positive guest relations.

Comply with Accrediting Organization and hospital safety standards; maintain CPR certification; operate equipment safely; follow standard precautions.

Maintain department records, assemble daily schedules, prepare patient folders, and operate Hospital Information Computer Systems as required.

Stay current with ultrasound skills and developments; provide instruction and assistance to students or fellow technologists as required.

Provide a respectful, private environment for patients and maintain patient confidentiality per hospital policies.

Education/Experience Required

Graduation from a program approved by ARDMS.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required

Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by ARDMS to be obtained within 3 months unless not required by department leadership.

Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN issued by ARDMS to be obtained within 3 months unless not required by department leadership.

Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by ARDMS within 3 months unless not required by leadership.

Vascular Sonography (VS) registration issued by ARRT within 3 months unless not required by leadership.

Vascular Specialist (RVS) registration issued by CCI within 3 months unless not required by leadership.

Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) with Adult Echo issued by ARDMS within 18 months unless not required by leadership.

Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by CCI within 18 months unless not required by leadership.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by AHA within 6 months.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Technical knowledge to perform all ultrasound studies with minimal radiologist assistance; ability to explain protocols, procedures and images; identify pathology and abnormalities for radiologist interpretation.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to adjust to flexible hours, including on-call and weekend/holiday coverage; stand for long periods; lift as necessary; exposure to radiation; operate portable equipment.

Ability to communicate with patients, maintain patient confidentiality, and provide high-quality patient care with sound judgment.

May be exposed to hazardous chemicals; may require travel to out-of-town site visits to view equipment.

Ability to work with various age groups; appropriate experience with multiple age ranges is preferred.
