Recreation & Athletic Specialist 4
– Clallam Bay Corrections Center (CBCC). Full-time - Permanent. The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the Recreation & Athletic Specialist 4 position at Clallam Bay Corrections Center. CBCC is a 900-bed male correctional facility located on the Olympic Peninsula; it houses medium and close custody incarcerated individuals and operates a Restricted Housing Unit. The Recreation & Athletic Specialist 4 position ensures that the overall Recreation program meets the needs of both the facility and incarcerated individuals. Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and directs the institution’s recreation program to include intramural sports leagues, weightlifting programs, fitness activities, hobby, music, photo, club activities, arts and crafts, social activities, and supervision of incarcerated work crews. Coordinates the availability of these program services in the gymnasium, outside yards, visiting rooms, and living units. Solicits feedback from staff and individuals about the current program. Reviews and provides input on program ideas, develops a budget for equipment, supplies, and facilities, and provides a weekly recreation schedule for all units to attend. Establishes and prioritizes performance expectations for staff, conducts timely performance evaluations, and provides ongoing directions, coaching, and mentoring. Addresses employee performance and misconduct issues and takes appropriate actions; assesses staff for career development and provides training experiences. Provides guidance and counseling to individuals regarding recreation programs, policies, and procedures; establishes and maintains liaisons with community representatives and organizations. Qualifications
Required: High School Diploma or G.E.D. 2 years of experience in program management in recreational or intramural sports programs. Desired: A bachelor’s degree involving major study in recreation or therapeutic recreation; or in music, drama, physical education; or in psychology, sociology, or education with a minor in recreation, physical education, music, or drama, plus three years of professional experience including one year in a supervisory capacity; OR Three years of experience as a Recreation & Athletics Specialist, including one year as a Recreational Specialist 3.
