Overview
Leidos Defense Systems Sector seeks a Sustainment Chief Engineer to join the Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 (IFPC Inc2) Program. The IFPC Inc2 system is a ground-based, mobile system designed to combat cruise missiles and unmanned aircraft systems, protecting civilian and military infrastructure and bridging short-range air defense systems with strategic systems. The Sustainment Chief Engineer will track sustainment-related activities, such as root cause analyses of in-service problems (operational hazards, corrosion effects, reliability degradation) and logistics deliverables (user manuals, emplacement procedures, repair/replace procedures, and others) for fielded IFPC Inc2 launchers, reporting status to the program’s technical leadership. This role serves as a technical liaison with customer representatives and users to ensure fielded systems remain operational, reliable, and safe. Responsibilities Root cause analysis of in-service problems including: Operational hazards
Corrosion effects
Reliability degradation
Special considerations for software sustainment engineering
Provide engineering perspective to the LOG IPT: Input to user manuals
Input to emplacement and load/reload procedures
Input to repair/replace procedures
Engineering disposition of rework/repair on maintenance items
Spares packaging development/review (drawings required)
Provisioning conference input from engineering perspective including drawing plan
Support tracking in-field configuration changes/updates
Development of field service bulletins
Development of required design changes to resolve operational issues
Materiel Improvement Plan (MIP) review boards
DMSMS mitigation: Parts obsolescence
Technology refresh
Technology insertion
Engineering dispositions
Technical manual and technical order updates: Repair or upgrade vs. disposal or retirement
Maintenance evaluation automation
Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)
Development of engineering cut-in execution plans: Log documentation updates
Field retrofit kits
Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with 12+ years of experience or an MS with 10+ years
Basic understanding of weapons platform systems development lifecycle
Experience leading cross-discipline and product teams
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate within a team environment, including leading and conducting technical reviews
Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area
Possess a secret clearance, or have the ability to obtain a secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications Experience with logistics deliverables and activities (user manuals, repair/replace procedures, field service bulletins)
Reliability analyses including failure causes and effects, reliability and maintainability trends, and parts obsolescence
Experience working directly with system users
MBSE and requirements management tools
Effectively leading a team of engineers
Accurate estimation of engineering effort (hours) for Systems Engineering tasks
Understanding of DoD acquisition processes and methods
Experience supporting one or more DoD programs
Object Management Group (OMG) Certified System Modeler Professional (OCSMP) certification
INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification – CSEP Level
