Overview
Xavier University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biology to begin in Fall 2026, to contribute to its new undergraduate program in Neuroscience. The individual must hold a Ph.D. in an area of the biological sciences, with specialization in neuroscience strongly preferred. Xavier is not equipped for live vertebrate work, but has ample facilities for invertebrate models, particularly C. elegans. The university provides a generous start-up package and multiple private endowments support faculty research in the sciences. Xavier is growing, with biomedical sciences a major focal direction and a College of Osteopathic Medicine opening in 2027; a new facility will house the Departments of Biology and Chemistry, and Xavier is building partnerships with community organizations in Cincinnati for research and immersive learning opportunities. Xavier participates in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and the Big East, and is recognized as a national university in the Carnegie classifications and as an innovative school by U.S. News and World Report. Responsibilities
Teach the equivalent of 3 courses per semester, including a 200-level physiology course, neuroscience, professional skills courses for majors, and/or other upper-division courses of interest. Engage in scholarly activities and mentor undergraduates in a research program relevant to human health; advise students. Demonstrate a passion for teaching undergraduates; experience supervising undergraduates in research is a plus; collaborate with other Xavier faculty. Qualifications
