Director, Construction & Facilities - Modesto, CA Base pay range: $154,229.00/yr - $160,000.00/yr We are California’s largest regional, full-service grocery chain with 194 stores across Central and Northern California and Western Nevada. The Save Mart Companies is part of The Jim Pattison Group. This position leads the Construction Project Manager team and oversees multiple new store and remodel projects, facility repairs and maintenance programs. Responsibilities
Lead the Construction Project Manager team and oversee multiple new store and remodel projects Coordinate new store development and remodels with internal stakeholders; maintain positive relationships and ongoing communication with Store Managers and Product/Merchandising teams Adhere to all regional/national construction and operational standards and objectives Manage multiple projects concurrently from due diligence through planning, design, FF&E procurement, and store move coordination; maintain approved budgets and schedules Serve as Save Mart liaison for all departments, contractors, suppliers, landlords and authorities; coordinate toward common goals with professional decision-making Ensure completion of punch lists and conduct 11-month warranty inspections with the store manager; coordinate follow-up work with General Contractors Coordinate communication among district and store leadership, contractors, vendors and the construction community; manage store remodel communications with store leadership and customers Assist in managing the regional equipment buying process; ensure timely purchase of fixtures and equipment and coordinate deliveries and installations Perform on-site inspections of new store sites/buildings to ensure usability, lease/compliance with exhibits and quality workmanship per Save Mart plans Supervise construction administration including contracts, change orders, schedules, POs, invoicing and closeout documentation; maintain accurate cost records Provide safety leadership for associates at construction sites Advise on site evaluation, general contractor selection, and budget creation; make independent decisions on change orders and field directives Train and supervise less experienced team members; manage Save Mart field techs and third-party contractors for Repair & Maintenance programs Coordinate service vendors for small renovations, repairs and maintenance; oversee Repair & Maintenance and store move coordination within budgets Implement and coordinate workflows and communication via the Save Mart Work Order Management System (Corrigo) Proactively communicate with store leadership about planned remodels and R&M work; inspect sites for compliance with leases and standards Ensure repairs meet Save Mart standards and supervise all facility repairs and maintenance contracts Qualifications and Experience
10 years related experience, with 5 years in grocery construction leadership (new stores and remodels) and 7 years supervisory/management experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Architectural/Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred Excellent knowledge of grocery refrigeration, lighting, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory issues (CARB, Title 24 Energy, ADA, OSHA) Experience preparing construction budgets and tracking costs; proficient in Microsoft Suite and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, ProCore, Corrigo, Blue Beam) Familiar with store fixtures, planning, operations and merchandising; strong estimating and scheduling abilities Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure; strong organizational and interpersonal skills Effective collaboration with design consultants to develop construction drawings Knowledge of leasing and negotiating construction exhibits Ability to travel up to 50% within the Bay Area and Central Valley; flexible hours including early morning and late night Education and Other Requirements
Four-year bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience in architectural/engineering, construction management or related field preferred Work environment includes office and grocery store settings; ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed Typical workday involves sitting, standing and walking; exposure to confined spaces and moderate noise Reference: req39913 Location and Employment Type
