About this position The IDB Invest Legal Department (GCL) is seeking highly qualified and motivated professionals for the Institutional and Corporate Legal Affairs Division (GCL/ICL). The division advises the governance bodies of IDB Invest, a multilateral development bank owned by 48 member countries, on all institutional, corporate and financial matters. The role covers advice on the rights and obligations of member countries, institutional relationships, capital markets transactions, resource mobilization, human resources, data privacy, intellectual property, information technology, compliance, litigation and other strategic matters.

What you'll do

Provide legal advice on IDB Invest Constituent Documents, including the Agreement Establishing the Inter-American Investment Corporation and related governance matters.

Advise on institutional matters such as privileges and immunities, regulatory issues, board structures, and strategic institutional initiatives.

Support financial management and treasury operations, including borrowing programs, derivatives transactions, ISDA agreements, financial reporting and regulatory interactions.

Advise on resource mobilization and cooperation arrangements, including trust funds and co‑financing agreements.

Develop personnel policies and administer IDB Invest personnel, employee benefit trusts, staff retirement plans and grievance systems.

Provide advice on procurement, information technology, intellectual property and data privacy matters.

Support litigation and special assets, including private sector loan and guarantee transactions, restructurings, bankruptcies and portfolio administration.

Lead and coordinate institutional and corporate projects and initiatives, promoting knowledge sharing and innovation.

Oversee the selection and supervision of outside counsel services.

Lead and mentor other team members as appropriate.

What you'll need

Master's degree in Law (Juris Doctor, LL.M. or equivalent) from an accredited university and admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction of an IDB Invest member country.

Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience for Lead Counsel, and 5 years for Senior Counsel.

Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written; knowledge of Portuguese or French is preferable.

National Staff: Eligible to work in Washington, DC without sponsorship.

International Staff: No citizenship requirements.

No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
