IDB Invest - Lead/Senior Officer - Institutional and Corporate Legal Affairs Division IDB Invest is the private sector arm of the IDB Group, an international financial institution committed to addressing the development needs of Latin America and the Caribbean. About This Position The IDB Invest Legal Department (GCL) seeks highly qualified and motivated professionals to work in our Institutional and Corporate Legal Affairs Division (GCL/ICL). The division provides legal advice on institutional, corporate and financial matters for IDB Invest, covering rights and obligations of member countries, relationships with international organizations, financial management, capital markets transactions, resource mobilization, human resources, data privacy, intellectual property, compliance, litigation, and strategic initiatives.

What You’ll Do

Advise on constituent documents, including the Inter-American Investment Corporation agreement, member country rights, governance and policy initiatives.

Provide institutional legal advice on privileges, immunities, regulatory issues, board structures, executive director functions and strategic institutional initiatives.

Support financial management and treasury operations, including borrowing program implementation, derivatives transactions, ISDA negotiations, disclosures, financial reporting and regulatory interactions.

Offer legal advice on trust fund establishment, co-financing agreements and other resource mobilization initiatives.

Address human resources administration, including personnel policy design, contract modalities, benefits, retirement plans, employee conduct, ethics and grievance systems.

Advise on procurement, information technology, intellectual property, data privacy and vendor/supplier agreements.

Provide litigation support for private sector loan and guarantee transactions, troubled assets, restructurings, bankruptcies, workouts, litigation and portfolio administration.

Lead and coordinate institutional and corporate projects and initiatives, representing GCL or IDB Invest.

Keep abreast of legal trends and recommend standardized approaches and updated practices.

Oversee selection and supervision of outside counsel services in a cost‑effective manner.

Supervise attorneys, provide coaching and mentoring.

What You’ll Need Education:

Master’s degree in Law (Juris Doctor, LL.M., or equivalent) and admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction of an IDB Invest member country.

Experience:

Minimum 6 years of relevant experience for Lead Counsel, 5 years for Senior Counsel.

Language Skills:

Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written; additional knowledge of Portuguese or French is preferable.

Requirements

Citizenship:

National Staff must be eligible to work in job location(s) without sponsorship. International Staff – HQ has no citizenship requirements.

Consanguinity:

No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of Contract and Duration Type of contract:

International or National Staff Contract.

Length of contract:

36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
