Unit Secretary - F/T Day Shift
at
Nuvance Health Day Shift: 7am-3:30pm, 40 hours/week. Location: Norwalk Hospital (General Surgical) Responsibilities
Transcription of Physician's Orders and related computer duties. Transcribes Physician's Orders accurately and timely according to hospital policies and procedures. When appropriate, calls department to facilitate transcribed orders. Record Maintenance: prepares, maintains and forwards records accurately; files reports in the correct patient records daily; replenishes and reviews records; prepares records for admission, transfer, procedures, discharge and expiration; delivers expiration records to Admitting when needed; processes discharge records according to standard chart order. Communication: communicates effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and coworkers; identifies unit and self when answering phones; proficient with Cerner, Navicare Call System, Vocera, Nash system, and Forms on Demand; assists the RN in care delivery by processing communications accurately and timely; relays information to appropriate persons promptly; stays current with unit-wide information and hospital communications. Occupational and Personal Responsibilities: follows policy and procedures; offers suggestions to improve unit operations; maintains neat appearance and environment; complies with competencies and annual requirements; maintains personal educational record. Equipment and Supplies: monitors, orders and maintains equipment and supplies; enters and renews chargeable items/services into the computer system for patient care; coordinates with appropriate departments for needed services on the nursing unit. Unit responsibilities: enters assignments in Navicare; records Nash data every 4 hours and reviews the prior 24 hours for accuracy; supports call bell response; completes unit safety rounds including name bands, signage, and emergency equipment. Performs other duties as assigned and fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. Qualifications
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Previous secretarial/computer experience preferred with Windows-based systems. Hospital or other health care setting experience. Minimum Experience: zero to six months Desired: Working knowledge of medical terminology Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Working Conditions: Manual—significant manual skills and finger dexterity; some occupational risk; sedentary/light effort; may exert up to 10 lbs of force; generally pleasant working conditions. Salary
