Overview We are seeking a talented and self-motivated automotive Test Development Engineer for the EMC and electronics labs in Farmington Hills, MI. The ideal candidate will have experience in creating and executing validation test processes for functional and reliability evaluation of complex electronic control systems, including low voltage automotive control units and high voltage traction inverters. This position will play a key role in a development team that creates advanced automotive electronic control units for the future. Job Responsibilities Understand customer requirements and specifications and work with team to establish and execute detailed test plans. Design, set up and realize the test systems, including hardware (fixtures, sensors, actuators), interfacing electrical or computer systems (data acquisition systems), and writing interface software (software drivers, GUI). Execute test plans, collect test data, perform data analysis, and report and present the results. Evaluate, identify, and execute improvements to existing validation test plans and test rigs. Develop and maintain a high level of communications with cross-functional teams and partners, including internal and external teams. Assist root cause analysis and corrective action for hardware and software components and products. Attend functional training to learn new tools and methodologies and keep up to date on market and technical trends. Create and strive towards a positive work environment by demonstrating and sharing functional and technical knowledge. Promote and seek excellence in all aspects of the business. Comply with the designated ISO / TS 16949 responsibilities, Health & Safety rules and practices. Perform other assignments as directed by management and treat everyone with dignity, trust, and respect. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Creative and self-motivated with the ability to understand and divide a vision into prioritized tasks. Strong experience in validation design and development tasks. Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways. Provide the customer and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions. Ability to work on challenging assignments with aggressive schedules. Experience in hardware and software system integration, such as integration of new sensors and actuators into a new or existing test system. Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in industrial test and validation environment. Experience in data collection and statistical data analysis. Experience in requirements gathering and writing specifications as they relate to test functionality. Qualifications English: Fluent in written and verbal communication. Communication protocols (CAN, RS-232, TCP/IP, USB, SENT). Use of Vector CAN toolchain is highly desirable. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings. Perform schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer or equivalent tool chain. Perform circuit analysis and simulation using LTSpice or similar SPICE-based tools. Programming and data acquisition experience using National Instruments LabVIEW ecosystem. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Education and Experience Education: BS/MS in electrical or computer science or equivalent engineering discipline with appropriate coursework focus. Experience: 3-5 years practical work experience designing automotive ECUs and system components. Working Conditions Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time.
