Our client is seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Senior Embedded Linux Engineer to help advance their next-generation spacecraft payloads. You will focus on the design, development, and optimization of Linux-based platforms for mission‑critical embedded systems, supporting robust data collection and processing in orbit.
Location Hybrid Herndon, VA
Base Salary $140,000.00/yr - $175,000.00/yr
Base Salary range: $140,000 - $175,000 with a 15% additional annual bonus
Responsibilities
Developing, configuring, and maintaining Yocto-based Linux images for embedded ARM platforms
Performing board bring-up, kernel and driver development, and device tree configuration
Supporting integration of FPGA-enabled SoCs with Linux-based application layers
Optimizing system performance and resource utilization for Low‑Swap (Size, Weight, and Power) platforms
Collaborating with hardware, FPGA, and embedded software teams to deliver reliable, high‑performance payload capabilities
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
8+ years of experience in embedded Linux development, including Yocto, kernel customization, and device driver work
Expertise in ARM-based SoCs, board bring‑up, and FPGA integration
Proficiency in C/C++ and familiarity with Python
Strong troubleshooting and system‑level integration skills
Experience with space‑grade or high‑reliability embedded systems is a plus
