We are seeking a mid‑career Safety & Certification Engineer with hands‑on avionics experience to support the safety analysis and certification strategy for complex airborne electronic systems.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and perform safety assessments and certification planning for avionics hardware and software, including system safety assessments, functional hazard assessments (FHAs), preliminary and detailed system safety assessments (PSAs/DSAs).
Develop, maintain, and execute certification artifacts and documentation (e.g., safety cases, compliance matrices, certification plans) demonstrating compliance to regulations such as FAA/EASA Part 23/25/CS‑23/25, RTCA DO‑254, DO‑178C, DO‑278A, ARP4754A, and ARP4761.
Define and validate system and software safety requirements; work with system architects, HW/SW engineers, and integrators to ensure traceability from requirements through verification and validation.
Support system verification and validation activities including test planning, witnessing, and analysis to substantiate safety claims and certification objectives.
Participate in cross‑functional design reviews, safety reviews, and certification meetings with internal teams and regulators.
Identify hazards, perform risk assessments, and propose mitigations and design changes to reduce safety risks to acceptable levels.
Prepare technical responses to regulatory authorities and certification partners; support audits and regulatory interactions.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements, lessons learned, and best practices for avionics safety and certification.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline.
5+ years of direct experience in avionics safety and certification engineering (industry experience on transport or regional aircraft, rotorcraft, or large UAVs preferred).
5+ years of experience producing and managing safety analyses (FHA, SSA, FHA/SSA traceability), safety requirements, and certification documentation.
5+ years of experience with requirements management and configuration control tools.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant field.
5+ years of knowledge of aviation safety regulations and industry standards (e.g. RTCA DO254, DO178C/DO331/DO332/DO333, ARP4754A, ARP4761, FAA/EASA certification processes).
5+ years of experience collaborating with cross‑disciplinary teams and interacting with regulatory authorities.
Prior experience interfacing directly with FAA, EASA, or other international certification authorities.
Familiarity with model‑based development, DO331/332 use cases, or hardware lifecycle per DO254.
Certification or training in safety engineering (e.g., CSEP, relevant DO178C/DO254 training).
Experience with safety analysis tools (e.g., CAE/COTS tools for FMEA, fault‑tree analysis).
Travel 10%.
