Process Automation Engineer
At Oregon Steel Mills LLC in Portland, we seek a Process Automation Engineer to enhance production quality and equipment utilization. The role collaborates with production, quality, and maintenance to identify and implement innovative manufacturing solutions.
Job Description And Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, modify, and create PLC code using Rockwell/Siemens software and Allen‑Bradley PLCs or Siemens PLCs.
Create new PLC code and specify new hardware and associated electrical drawings for leading projects or assisting other engineers.
Assist in troubleshooting live equipment on the plant floor or remotely while keeping production safe and efficient.
Develop strategies to reduce defects, delays, and missed opportunities.
Gather and analyze data to produce proof‑of‑concept models for process improvement.
Understand equipment limitations and collaborate with engineering personnel to improve performance.
Create new HMI code using Ignition software from Inductive Automation.
Develop training tools to help team members gain a better understanding of the process.
Maintain knowledge of current best practices in process automation through continuous education.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Process, Metallurgy, or Mechanical Engineering or proven equivalent experience.
3–5 years experience in Process Automation.
Proficient in various PLC languages and tools.
Experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing fields.
Experience with Control Theory (feedback, feed forward, sequencing concepts).
Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics and use technical manuals.
Experience with logical circuitry and troubleshooting logical circuits.
Database interaction and query language experience.
Strong computer skills with experience in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
