Role Overview
HDR, an employee‑owned company, invites a Senior Civil Engineer to join a culture of inclusion, innovation, and community impact.
Responsibilities
Lead site civil engineering design and production for buildings, facilities, and infrastructure across residential, commercial, industrial, water/wastewater, municipal, federal, and power/data center projects.
Serve as the Civil Engineer of Record and manage permitting processes (federal, state, local).
Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams from planning through construction documentation and construction administration.
Prepare detailed construction drawings, technical specifications, engineering calculations, and reports.
Provide construction phase support: respond to RFIs, review submittals, and manage construction issues.
Lead and train a team of CADD designers, EITs, and Site Civil Engineers.
Serve as a Project Manager on larger projects while engineering remains the primary focus.
Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Assist in developing scope and fee proposals.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an ABET‑accredited university.
Minimum of 10 years of site civil/land development design experience for buildings or infrastructure.
Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) recognized in the location of the position.
Experience serving as the Design Lead or Engineer of Record on complex land development projects.
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, ICPR/Stormwise, WaterCAD, and StormCAD.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within fast‑paced, multidisciplinary teams.
Strong leadership skills, highly organized, self‑motivated, proactive, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Project engineering and project management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Proposal writing experience.
Project management experience.
Prior experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
Preference given to local candidates.
